    Default Livescope Transducer mounting depth

My boat doesn’t have a strong bow rake. Because of this I am concerned that the transducer may need to be positioned below the bottom of the hull in order to scan the opposite side. Will the bottom of the hull interfere with the ability to scan?

If the transducer needs to be positioned below the bottom of the hull, how much lower should it be?

What kinda boat. Pics? I doubt you need it mounted too deep unless you just insist on being able to scan the top 2 ft of water which is not where I usually fish.

My boat is a shallow water poling skiff. You can see in the top image that the rake is minimal. I’m not sure there is enough room to mount the transducer pole at the very front.

1- Since I want to be able to scan both the port and starboard sides, will it be necessary to position the transducer below the bottom of the hull?
2- Our waters are shallow, generally 7 or 8 feet or less. It is important to scan high in the water column.
3- I’d like to scan the front and also both sides of the boat.

I'm assuming that you're gonna be using Perspective Mode, considering that shallow of depth ?? If so, then you would want the transducer "below" the bottom of the boat in order to see both sides. That would hold true if you were using "Forward View" and wanted a 360deg view.

If the tdx is mounted for "Forward View", you can tilt the tdx back a click or two to raise the ping towards the surface ... where you can see your jigs "splashdown" on the water's surface.

Couple of questions : Where's your Garmin unit mounted ?? And is your trolling motor "auto deploy" (and the reason for wanting a mounting pole for the tdx) ??

    I didn’t buy the unit yet. Looking at a 1022 w/LS34.
Troll motor is a standard Motor Guide with foot cable steer.
Most locals use pole mount because they can scan sideways when moving via troll motor.
At this time I am thinking of mounting the display up front on the bow.
Looking at these mounts for now. It looks like a beast.
Planning to fabricate a PVC pole with welded aluminum brackets and a ~7” RAM mount.

Since our fishing is always shallow, I am hoping that Perspective Mode will work for me.

Any opinions and thoughts are welcomed about any and all of this. My boat is small (16’4”) so real estate is an issue.

You may want to look at BeatDown Outdoors mounts. I have one and love it! As an aside, I have learned that LS34 works best with 12" and larger screens. Save some $$ and get the LS 32. Only thing you give up with the LS32 is a little distance. The transponder is weaker on the 32 vs the 34. It seems which one you pick is based on how far out you need to see fish clearly. Beam is about 1-2 degrees wider on the 32.

I am under the impression that the 34 has better target separation. Can anyone confirm or deny that? A lot of our fishing are laid down trees (bunches of them) on shallow water banks at a distance generally of about 50 feet max.

In the testing I have seen on YouTube, yes, the 34 has slightly better target separation- especially out at 40+ feet.

I have a Sylvan deep V aluminum boat. I use the pvc mount which I made. It's positioned about two feet from the front of the boat on the port side. No problems viewing either side, including the rear of the boat. I bought a Ram mount which has worked out well. I've used it this way for a little over a year. I may shorten the length at the top as well as the control arm as they have gotten in the way at times when jig fishing.
I only fish the two best days of the year, when its raining and when its not!
