    Default Garmin Updates ?

So, like a lot of other guys, I've added Livescope to the boat this winter.

I bought a UHD 93sv and the LVS 34 combo.
Straight out of the box it seems pretty good just the way it is.

A friend of mine told me not to update it because he's heard there has been some problems with the latest Garmin updates. I've been looking around the internet for a while and I really can't find anything to confirm or deny it.
When I asked Garmin, all they said was they recommend doing all the updates.

So a lot of you guys have way more knowledge on this than I do so, what say you?
Personally, I've always do updates.... Opinions?
I always figured the newest updates would correct any bugs an earlier update would create.

    Thanks to all who respond.

    Keep it updated.
Active Captain works great for me.

Most of the issues I have seen people have are a result of not properly understanding and executing the update process. I will admit, the first time I did an update it was intimidating. Be sure you understand the process and follow the instructions and you will be happy with your results.

I really like watching Randy Carpenter, Garmin Guru, on Youtube. He is very knowledgable on Garmin Livescope.

I did the updates a few nights ago. Thankfully my wife helped me out and between the 2 of us we got it done.
We found a YouTube from Russel Marine which was a few years old but pretty easy to follow. I guess because my unit is newer than the video the steps weren't exactly the same but it was close enough. The confusing part is all the switching between the screens.

They say that most people that have problems after updating did their updates with Active Captain. It is recommended to either download the update from Garmin to an SD card or, even better, purchase an SD from Garmin preloaded with the update. I think they were about 35 bucks, but I'm not sure.

Couple of years ago when Garmin released the perspective view in an update, I updated my unit. Let me just say .... if it ain't broke don't fix it.

If your Livescope is working good then don't update, unless you are have problems. PERIOD !!!

I had trouble updating my 93’s contacted garmin they sent me a card with the latest update free of charge. They said some cards just don’t want to work sometimes. Super awesome customer service the few times I’ve called. On of which was during the update process. Garmin stayed on the line until I had it under control!
