Mega Live and Target Lock…good and really bad.

I got my upgraded Mega Live and my new Target Lockout today. I was super impressed with the picture on my bow Helix 12. The clarity and ability to see my jig rivals my 126sv Livescope. I locked the Target Lock onto a stakebed in 15fow and moved around with my Ultrex. It tracked extremely close and after a 180% pass around the bed, I only needed to bump it to the side to line back up perfectly. It worked as good on SpotLock. That’s the good.

The really bad was any time I went to make adjustments to my Target Lock settings, my Helix would lock up! NOTHING!! Had to unplug it on the back of the unit to even get it turned off. Once I would restart it, I would have to go back thru the calibrations and pairing on the Target Lock head and my remote. I went thru this and a couple of things Rickie recommended about 5/6 times. This will not work! Period!! I am a true Humminbird guy but won’t go thru much of this crap before it all goes back in the box! Supposedly a new upgrade is in the works and I’m normally very slow to upgrade and let others work out the bugs.

Rickie and I were on the phone during this and he’s as puzzled as I am.

The most puzzling part is Humminbird has known about this issue for months now with no fix yet ...

It seems HB has jumped on the get it out, and we will fix it later train.
Started about the time Solix came out.
Was a die hard HB guy for 10 years at least.

Hope HB comes out with something to fix it soon. Im sure it’s frustrating especially when it affects your bottom line or could potentially alter a tournament outcome.

Hey MR,
I googled “ Hummingbird Mega Live problems” . Viewed a BBC post talking about the lockup problem. The claim is the 5 port switch is limited to utilizing only 4 of the 5 ports. The solution is to daisy chain a second 5 port switch. Please take a look at the information in BBC post for a better solution description. I have used 5 ports on the 5 port switch for years but the claim is its usage depends on what you have connected to the 5 ports.

I’ve already installed a 2nd AS ETH 5XPG in Dougs boat to address the concept of not filling all 5 ports ...

UPDATE!

I received an update patch for my Helix 12 locking up issue. It is 2.276. I haven't loaded it yet but early users are pleased with it stopping the locking up. The Helix 12 and Helix 15 units have been affected.

I ran my Mega Live and Target Lock on one of my Helix 10 units and it worked perfectly all day yesterday. I'm very pleased with the resolution and detail.

Rickie and I ran my Mega Live and Target Lock on my Helix 12 units today after installing the patch, 2.760. They worked perfectly with zero lock ups. Very pleased.

Sure did! Catfish and crappie that ignored everything we offered. Such is the reality of live sonar sometimes.
