    Default Side Imaging Question

Have any of you tried side imaging on trolling motor ? I know they say best read is on console at 3-5 mph . Only have one unit in boat that will be replaced with side imaging up front. Is cigar style transducer hard to mount to trolling motor head with out the fear of being tore up easily ?

I wouldn’t have SL on the trolling motor especially if you are moving as the trolling motor is moving to keep a boat on course and moving for spotlock. If you have SI on your console and your fish ifinders are networked (bow and console) you can see the view at the console up front as well by changing views on your bow mount. JMO

I have a Garmin Force trolling motor so it comes with a transducer mounted on the motor. Over 95% of my fishing is on an electric only lake. As long as you are not doing a lot of turning the Side imaging is pretty good. As posted about trying to look at side imagining when using spot lock is useless.

Prior to the Force I had a Motorguide Xi5. I tried mounting a Garmin GT54 transducer on it, I had all kind of interference whenever I got above about half speed on the trolling motor. The motor was about 5 years old, don't know if that had any effect on causing the interference or not.

Using SI on spotlock IS useless. It's designed to be used while the boat is moving.
I have Mega SI built into my Ulterra and use it all the time when the motor is deployed and running.
I have a stick steer so I sit up front all the time.
It depends on what trolling motor you plan on using as to the problems encountered. I had a Terrova that I tried mounting a TM puck to, but the skeg on the TM would not allow the puck to have enough clearance. I tried mounting it both in the front of, and behind the skeg. Clearance and leveling issues made me give up and sell the Terrova. It was a great excuse to upgrade to the Ulterra with the built-in transducer.

I have helix gen 1 Si up front transducer mounted to the bottom of my Ulterra and absolutely love it!
have had it up front for close to 3 years. I blue gill fish a lot and have found hundreds of beds that I would have prolly never found if I hadn’t of had it ! Also comes in handy when trying to figure out where the grass lines are.i turn down the speed to 2 when going 1-2 mph and find lots of stuff barely moving !

I have a minnkota maxxum & have si & di at both trolling motor & console & wouldn't be without it. If i had spotlock it may be different.

I personally like side & down imaging up front. I’ve found several things when on the trolling motor that I’ve caught fish off of.

I had side image on my maxxum and loved it. Recently upgraded to a terrova love the spot lock but sure miss my side image on the front graph. In time will probably get the bracket and hose so I can reinstall it without worrying about winding the ducer cord up. Usually never got perfect images due to turning slightly or not fast enough but could definitely make out structure and get right to it to fish. Could also get a great image if you wanted and kept from turning
