How quick fish will leave out when getting close when trying to livescope fish? They seem to be wild on Cumberland.

I don't have live scope, I use Mega live. I was vertical jigging today in 8 ft of water and they didn't seem to care. That was with the trolling motor in spot lock also.

I think it has to do with the frequency of the sonar beams with Garmin. I've heard other people mention this as well. For my use with mega live I don't seem to have the issue

So I believe it is the trolling motor. I witnessed this with fish on a very clear lake last spring. I was sight fishing giant schools of crappie and bluegills out deep along a weed line, and if I just let the boat drift over them I could fish right on top of them without any issues. If I even touched that trolling motor once, every fish within a good 10-15 yards of me instantly jumped and swam in every direction away from the boat for a little ways.

My buddy, slabeye, has seen that quite often at Cumberland .... sometimes not being able to get any closer to them than 20ft or more. And that's all he does is Livescope fish, even when fishing out of his buddy's boat.

I haven't fished Cumberland in some time, but on Taylorsville & Green I've been all over top of them with the trolling motor and they haven't shied away from it or my Livescope. I've even tied off to a tree at Taylorsville and fished another tree, not 10ft away, and kept the Livescope trained on that tree ... and still caught fish.

Only difference I can think of is the Cumberland Crappie slabeye & his buddy are catching are mostly Black Crappie.

Pappy thanks. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed this. I’d be thinking it was just me not knowing what I’m doing.Which I don’t.

I noticed the crappie running as well. I got a livescope just recently and have learned that I was scaring fish off structure and probably not catching as meany as I could have going stealth or pitching to them. I used to roll right up above the structure and start fishing, I always caught fish but I definitely catch more staying back. Now I hang back and cast to them and then move up closer. Fish say at 20ft deep don’t seem to mind but fish at 10ft definitely seem to spook off my boat if I come in to fast or loud.

I would think this will get worse as the fish are pressured and targeted more

I’d say you’re right about that. Funny thing is they say on lakes like Green & Taylor you can get right over top of them & the crappie on both of them definitely have a lot of pressure on them.
