On another forum a guy claims he updated latest version of Garmin software for his chart plotter without updating the GLS 10. The poster claims he has a better quality of picture by just updating the chart plotter. This new version came out last week and many claim by updating both the chart plotter and GLS 10 they got a less quality Livescope. I think Garmin released the update last week so current Livescopers would have a picture and new options (Ghost Reject "Auto" and Color Gain Limit) to be very similar to the new LSV 34. But it appears they may need to do more testing and release another update to correct problems created by last weeks update. Color Gain Limit option is applied to chart plotter with update and Ghost Reject "Auto" is applied to GLS 10 update.

To update only the chart plotter you must use SD card and turn off GLS 10 or unplug ethernet cable. Remove SD card before turning GLS 10 back on. Will not work if you update through Active Captain because after turning on GLS 10 the update will then go to it.

I plan to wait and let all this play out before I do any updating with latest software version. Happy with my six month old Livescope and do not plan to spend another $1200 for limited upgrade quality. Expect many Youtube videos to be out soon with comparsions to enable making an update or purchase choice.

I referenced "Color Gain Limit" which is incorrect. Should read "Color Limit", it will show up under Appearance option.

    That’s what I did.
Updated my chart plotter and not my GLS10
Used Active captain but did not plug in GLS10.
It will be fine unless I choose to update black box while on water and choosing to update.
I fished last week after my update and noticed zero problems.

That makes me wonder if I would be ok with the update. I don’t use active captain.

ok, il get in the hunt with you all. I currently have had lowrance since i could walk, talk and fish. Now considering Garmen. Have spent 4 days online doing comparisons for a 10 inch that i could hook to livescope later. I came up with the garmin echmap ultra 102 as the best bet. Then saw someone in here had already concluded that 2 years ago---4 days wasted. Now during my search Garmin comes out with new improved. Although my mentor, SLAB, has a 94sv, after reading a lot of information, i decided the 10 inch might be for me. Soo my question is this,is the ultra 102 still my best choice fishing shallow inland lakes no more than 25 foot? Going fishing on this 80 degree day on the Harria Chain in Fl. where i live with my boat in the dock

The 102sv only has Worldwide base mapping and the 106sv has BlueChart g3 coastal charts and LakeVü g3 inland maps.
    Hope this helps.

I read on the bbc site that some are updateing with the 19.20 while the black box is unpluged. They are saying this is the best because the 2.55 is better then the 2.57. The problelm if you go to lvs 34 and keep the black box then you must update with 19.20 2.57 don't understand so i have not updated yet.

If you only want to update your unit and not the GLS10 simply turn transducer off at the unit.
Update the unit and not the GLS10.
I have most recent update in my 1222 v26.20 and 2.57 on GLS10 with zero issues.
Just have to play with the settings

    2.55 v2.57
    Added Auto Ghost Reject option.
    Improved sunbeam reduction.
    Good luck.
