Side Imaging depth finder?

I'm wanting to purchase a new side imaging depth finder. I've been leaning to the Hummingbird Helix 7 SI mega chirp gps G4. Its a new unit which isn't in stores yet. Its within my budget but it may be some time as Hummingbird doesn't know when the parts to manufacturer it will be available. I am also considering their Helix 7 down imaging unit in the G4. I considered doing a network system, its a bit pricey to complete the system.
What other units do you use? The Helix 8 is a possibility. Lowrance ratings don't look good. What about Garmin units? If I go with the Helix 8 SI which down imaging unit would you go with? Or should I just wait it out?

Just note in Humminbird units of the HELIX line ... the model name must have “N” to be Ethernet compatible ...

i.e. HELIX 7 G4N (“N” indicates networkable) ...

Conversely HELIX 7 G4 is not networkable ...

Go a big as you can afford ! That way you will only have to buy once ! I started out with the 5” then the 7” with very little luck locating stuff! So I finally bought a 10” and it’s unreal the difference . I’d personally buy a good used. gen 1,2,3 10” or larger before I’d buy a new gen 4 7”

I also have to 5 inch. Definitely get something you can see just as Slabprowler said.

Just like the advice above save up and buy a larger unit. It will be worth the wait and you will like it better. Had a few people in my boat that said they wish they had saved a little longer to get a bigger unit after seeing mine. I wasn't happy with my 5" and not sure a 7" is much better. I would suggest a 10" or 12" unit to make it more useful.

You have your budget and buying bigger May not fit in right now but as many have stated settling for a smaller unit isn’t going to cut it in electronics. Small units will do some of the same things big units will do but the detail in the picture will be hard to decipher. Therefore bigger is better. Not everyone can afford a thousand dollar unit but if you want quality, find a way to go bigger. I have twelves on my boat but I’m old and retired now. I can afford them now. Couldn’t afford them while raising my family but they’re all grown now.
