I would transom mount the transducer. If you upgrade to helix at the bow I believe you will need an Ethernet switch and you will probably need on with your older unit. Hopefully Rickie (rnvinc) will chime in. He is very knowledgeable.
I'm looking at upgrading my ipilot to ipilot link. I know about the kit needed. If I'm running the Helix at my console where is the best place to put the transducer? I'll also want to run another depth finder at the trolling motor. Without getting into too much more expense what can I run, if not mistaken I only need two D imaging? Can I hook up two cables to the trolling motor? Does the two D imaging depth finder need to be a Helix as I already have an older two D Hummingbird? Yes, I'm confused.
I only fish the two best days of the year, when its raining and when its not!

I thought it would be better to put the Helix at the console as I'm really interested in using side scan to locate deep brush piles. Many of these are located in 25/30 feet of water in the lake I typically fish. I'm thinking of running the deeper contour lines using a mapping card to help search them out. If this doesn't make sense please advise?

I'm looking at a Helix 7 si mega chirp gps 4g at the console. I initially wanted to do the network but I'm looking at quite a bit of money to complete this setup. I've scaled back to two new Helix 7's. The other will be a compatible Helix 7 with down imaging. The 4G's are new, don't see anyone carrying these yet. I spoke with Hummingbird they told me there is a backlog to getting them out the door.
I've also determined my Lowrance unit can't do the updated mapping card. This is why I've decided to go with the new Helix 7 di. So two new Helix 7's, a new cable from the Terrova to the Helix 7 di, and a mapping card should complete this.

Note: the new HELIX 7 comes in G4 (not Ethernet capable) and G4N (Ethernet capable) ...
You must have the G4N to connect to iLink ...
