Default Help with dual slots on helix 9

I pulled my SD card out of the slot of my Helix to upload pictures to send to Hummingbird for some issues that I'm having. I noticed that my way points and screenshots are being saved to the same memory card slot that I have a chart select map saved too. I was under the impression that once you downloaded a chart select map to an SD card it would lock it so only that map would be on there so I have a second card thinking that pictures and such would be saved to that. Looking at my helix, it says that slot one is chartselect and Slot 2 shows just an SD card with 29.7 GB of free space. Is this normal or is there some setting that I need to change so that all recordings pictures and waypoints would be sent to the second card or is it even an issue to worry about

Full size SD Cards have a mechanical slide lock on the side ... micro SD Cards do not ...

With dual micro SD Cards - the Chart Select card should be removed before exporting Nav data so that the Nav data is not inadvertently sent to the Chart Select card ...

Snapshots are written directly to a SD Card so care should be taken to also remove the Chart Select card before taking screenshots ...

It shouldn’t damage the Chart Select card if Nav data or snapshots are written to it but maybe just not good practice ...

I don't believe I'm exporting. Atleast I'm not selecting for the unit to do so. I have the chart select card in the left slot and a blank card in the right.i use it to find the depth or area to search. When I find something worth a screen shot then I hold down the mark button. But instead of the picture going to the blank card then it goes to the map card. I figured there would be an option to select which card held the waypoints, pictures, and recordings. But I have not found that option. The blank card has the helix 9 unit information as well as a few waypoints that I retained from my helix 7 but thats it.

This unit has had several little quirks with it since new, from display issues to making long button sounds with one touch of the key pad, screen flashing to not being able to save changes to the sonar spectrum. I've told humminbird customer service several times about different things that show up but each time I'm told its normal. Just wish they would let me send it to them and make sure its all just normal.

Disclaimer: I am tech-savvy EE. IIRC, this is how I fixed that small issue on mine - by swapping slots, and starting with the storage card in left slot first, then put map card in the right slot second; you try at your own risk.
First, power Helix off, then take both cards out (don't mix them up). Use your PC to move/copy all the HB files and directories from the map card to the storage card, and erase them from the map card. DON"T ERASE THE MAP directories/files. Mine is a Navionics card, so it is obvious which ones are which.
Now put JUST the data storage or HB card in the LEFT slot. Power up the unit and make sure you can look at your screen shots, or take one. Power back OFF after this is done.
Now put the map card in the right slot. Power back up, and you should be able to switch charts to that map card.

That's how I did it on on my Helix 9 MSI+ G3 with Navionics+ card. Maybe this will work for you. It seems the Helix checks the left slot first. Start with the storage card first in the left slot, the Helix will use it first. I then installed my Navionics card in the right slot. Now, all the HB stuff is on the left card (32GB), and nothing gets written to the map card (16GB card from Navionics). HTH

As for the settings and glitches, mine are solid, so this isn't normal. I always do a "reset defaults" after an upgrade, or if things get wonky. You probably know this, but to see ALL the options and menus on the Helix 9, you have to go into the system settings and change mode from "Angler" to "Custom". HTH

    Also note (in HELIX) ...

Screenshots are written directly to an SD Card ...

Nav data is written to the internal unit memory and must be manually exported to an SD Card ...

Since screenshots are saved to an SD card why isn't there an option to select which slot you save to since there are two slots. Like having chart select in slot one and choose slot 2 for storing screen shots/recordings or exporting nav data.

I agree it should be an option ...

But as jawjatek mentioned the unit defaults to write to the left card slot - unless the SD Card in the left card slot is locked or there is no SD Card in the left card slot ...

Is there a way to lock a micro sd card on the computer? I know on a standard size memory card it is lockable physically but there is not a way to do that on the micro as far as I know.

I have also never seen a way to lock a micro SD Card ... (unless that micro SD Card is physically inserted into a full size SD Card adapter) ...
