Thank you! Great, honest information. Looking forward to seeing and learning more!
Good Morning Everyone:
I attended the Bassmaster Expo yesterday in Fort Worth and met with the Hummingbird team regarding Mega Live. I need to clarify that I am going to share the feedback I received but the individuals I talked to stated they are still learning the features/functions.
Strengths (According to HB):
1) No black box (Duh!)
2) HB folks can use current G3N and G4N and take advantage of a networked boat
3) No ghost tree (See notes )
4) Reduction of "noise, clutter" with better clarity (See notes)
Notes:
Because the software was designed with down mode, forward mode and perspective mode at the same time, all angles were taken into account to reduce noise and provide better clarity. The claim is Garmin added perspective mode later and so this is why Garmin has "more noise."
At the event, they did have video of structure and it looked solid. To be honest, the video with structure looked just like Garmin. The rep stated that the technology is really the same, it is just how it is consumed by the unit/transducer.
Weaknesses (My Opinion..not fact)
To set the mode, you set the transducer angle. Straight down is at "0". Each click up is 10 degrees. My understanding is HB will tell you the degrees to set based on the mode you wish to fish. I asked how to adjust to distance view (30 ft to 70 ft back to 20 ft) and they didn't have an answer. One individual stated that you have to set the angle of the transducer to be able to reach out to the maximum distance which seems complicated to me. Do I have to raise the TM to change my distance? Are the settings going to be similar to SI? No clear answer. This is my biggest concern...how user friendly is the solution to allow us to adjust distance and clarity.
Overall
I believe this is going to be a solid solution for HB folks. The structure/fish views look very similar to Garmin without the need for a new unit or black box. The eliminating of dead spots, ghost tree and clutter is a benefit (assuming the information is correct).
Concerned about user friendliness, accuracy of jig related to fish/structure (2d vs 3d) and bugs being a 1st generation solution.
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the information, I'm excited to see and read more about it. Sounds like they are still working on things. By your information the range will be set by hardware not software, I could see that being a pain for the ones who do a lot of adjustments, for me won't be to bad because I keep Livescope at 40 95% of the time.
My "guess" is HB is banking on the idea that the clarity is strong enough that angles do not need to adjust the range, just the clarity settings. But it would not surprise me if it works similar to SI. But I agree, if you are fishing waypoints, and not chasing fish, this may not be an issue.
Thanks for the review.
Too little info, too much speculation.
It's here and soon the real life testing begins.
Hoping Roy will take one for the team and then give his honest assessment of the Mega Live along with his review of his new 12" G4 and new Mega 360.

I would love to test the Mega Live if I could get my hands on one! Thinking about the 15" Helix to run it on. May have to pass on the 360,

Hope you snag one early.
No hurry on this end.
Going to wait and see how it shakes out for the early adopters before adding/subtracting another system.
Fortunately, still have a 2.2 LS system working just fine.
Good Luck

Hope for all the Bird owners it works out.
I didn’t wait and pulled the trigger about 6 months ago.
Glad I didn’t jump in on Panoptix first or second version.
