Default Helix 5 vs Helix 7

I have a buddy that is looking at getting a new depth finder. He is looking at the Helix 5 DI / GPS and The Helix 7 MEGA DI (G3) / GPS. I told him that I have the Helix 5 DI/GPS and the Helix 7 Mega DI/Mega SI /GPS and that the DI on my 5 is better than the DI on my 7. What are you guys/gals opinions?
    Thanks for any feedback.

HELIX 7 MEGA DI/SI does not have a dedicated DI piezo ... HELIX 5 DI does ...

So imagine 2 flashlights pointing to the sides at about 30° from horizontal - these represent the SI piezoes in the HELIX 7 MEGA DI/SI ... the DI image is created by blending the data from these side pointing piezoes and computer generating the data to “look” like a DI image ...

Now imagine a flashlight pointing straight down - this represents the DI piezo in the HELIX 5 DI ...

Thus the HELIX 5 DI data is coming from “straight down” - - whereas the HELIX 7 MEGA DI/SI data is coming from the sides ...
    ——-

Now that is your scenario of why the HELIX 5 DI has better DI than your HELIX MEGA DI/SI ...

You mention your buddy is considering the HELIX 5 DI or the HELIX 7 MEGA DI - both have a dedicated DI piezo so the DI image should be similar (except HELIX 7 MEGA DI also has the MEGA 1200kHz frequency choice that the HELIX 5 DI does not) ...

I don't think so, but I will check. Thanks for the input.
