x2 I would like to know about mounting options on xi5
Hey guys. Haven't been around for quite a while. I've been taking care of my 98 year old father the last three years. He's got the onset of dementia, so it's been a fulltime job. He put up with me, and I was a handful as a youngster, so I think I will continue to owe him my best effort. As a WW2 and Korea vet he deserves it. He's getting to the point that he is going to need skilled help, so I see me getting back to fishing here in a few months.
I've had a new Xi5 sitting on the front of my boat uninstalled for 26 months now. I'm about to get out there in the shop and take care of that. After that I am real interested in updating my electronics too. Most of my Lowrance stuff is aging, somewhat old tech, from the time SideScan was first introduced. About to retire, so I expect I'm going to invest the money to do it right this last time.
Was watching some of the crappie shows and wow, their bows look like the bridge on the Enterprise with all of the electronics. This ain't Kansas anymore. I don't see me going that far, but I suspect I'll put some form of Live scanning up front. However I can see now that the transducer won't be mountable to the Xi5. So that motivates this thread: Not having been around to see this market develop, what kind of live scanning transducer setups/mounting hardware are out there to mount the transducers independently from the trolling motor.
And which live scanning set-up is the market leader, and why? Thanks!

The "leader", right now, is Garmin/Livescope ... because they're the only one out there in the "live scanning" field. Lowrance is coming on & so is Humminbird.
Podunk Ideas makes a transducer pole, as does Fishing Specialties, as does several dozen other brands. Some people have even gone to the DIY deal, making one from PVC pipe or even the mounting of a non-functional trolling motor, among other items.
But if you want to put the transducer on the trolling motor, Precision Sonar makes a cable guard for the Xi5 that would allow you to do so.

Update: Less than three weeks after starting this thread my wife was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma. I did not get to resume fishing, nor mount the Xi5. I did not want to. God's got cards he holds close to his chest, and he laughs at our plans. I had to put dad in assisted living so I could devote my time to caring for Robin. I spent every hour I could with her, but her time was too short. She put up a valiant fight. I lost her on December 26th, our 39th wedding anniversary. I'd give everything I have and everything I will ever have to be able to hug her just one more time. My priorities have been realigned. I am not yet over her, but I am starting to come out of it. I have stepped away from my agency, and take time for myself now, something that I didn't previously do. I have a 93 UHD/54 coming, and I'll mount it and the trolling motor in the coming months. SO the question remains, if I am not mounting the LiveScope transducer on the trolling motor, who now are the manufacturers of stand-alone articulating LiveScope transducer mounts?
Guys, pray to your Lord and Savior that he takes you first. Surviving a spouse...I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Prayers go out for you, friend ...
