    Default TM battery question

    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some assistance about battery hook ups/diagrams. I currently have a 12v 54# Minn Kota Ipilot trolling motor ran off one group 24 deep cycle battery. At times when I am fishing heavy current for long periods or fish an entire day, I've wished I had a second battery. I recently purchased a two bank Minn Kota on board charging system so before I choose the location for installing it.....

Is it possible to wire a second battery in the bow along with my first battery and have the two batteries on a switch where they can be ran independently from one another? And if so, will the on board charger still be able to charge these batteries independent from one another?

Thanks for any help or advice!

Yes. You don't need a switch. Hook positive to positive and negative to negative on the two batteries. Hook positive and negative of each lead from the charger to each battery. You will still only have12 volts going to the trolling motor. Hook the positive and negative from the trolling to 1 battery's positive and negative.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Yep what he said. You also don't need but one bank charger for it this way (or two bank if have it charging your cranking battery also)

The only other thought I have with that plan is to ensure both batteries are new or the same age. You don't want one old battery constantly draining at a different pace or it will slowly kill the new one.

So the battery I have now is less than 60 days old/ probably around 10-12 trip uses, and has been on a Noco charger/maintainer during that span. Would I still need to purchase two new batteries or is that new enough?

2 months old is no big deal. I would stick with same brand and size, etc. When you buy second one.
