New Locator
I have a buddy that's looking to buy a new locator. He has a pretty tight budget and has it narrowed down to three units. He is looking at the new Garmin striker vivid series, the Lowrance Hook reveal and the Hummingbird helix Mega DI gen 3. He is going with a 7 inch model and the way I understand there is a difference in the Helix 7 compared to the Helix 8 and above. Just wanted to see if anyone was running any of these units thanks

I love my 9's way more than the 7's I replaced. I totally understand the budget thing and since I no longer fish for money I think the 7 will do just fine. My old eyes just wanted a bigger screen and the 9 is much clearer to see. I am H'bird all the way but they all have their + and - factor. Go with your gut and wallet.

Bigger is always better but if you can see the screen and it shows what you want go for it . Got a brother that talked bad about my helix-9 . He said 10 should be the smallest and now runs a Garmin big as my college dorm tv. .

I'd go with the HB because it has Mega. I don't think the others do. I had a Lowrance for about a year, then it would start to act up after it was on for 2-3 hours continuously. I gave it away and bought a Garmin 9 UHD.
