GPS is everywhere.
I’m looking for a decent quality fish finder without GPS. I mostly fish smaller bodies of water that don’t have GPS coverage. Any recommendations ? Thanks, Todd

id get a unit where you could create your own map of the bodys of water you fish
Humminbird made a few HELIX 5 units without GPS ...
At the Humminbird website search field type in HELIX 5 ...
A drop down Menu should open up - then look for the 3 models that do not have “GPS” in the model name ...

GPS is so standard in most units, I'd suggest just getting one (brand of your choice) that fits your needs (size & price) and just forget about the GPS being part of it. You don't have to even open the map screen, if you choose not to, and just keep the 2d or DI or whatever sonar function your unit has turned on.
Prior to getting Livescope, I rarely used the map screens on my Lowrance Elite 5DSI, and when I replaced it with a Hook 7 I didn't use the map screen very often on it, either. Now that I have the Livescope, the Hook 7 is a dedicated unit for mapping/waypoints, and only occasionally used for DI sonar.
Are you confusing GPS with Mapping? I fish several lakes that aren't mapped. I created my own using AutoChart Pro.
GPS is from satellites in a low orbit around the earth. GPS is always available in the USA and to the US military world wide. Trees, buildings and mountains can block weaker signals, but you shouldn't have any interference on the water. During the early GPS years a ground based GPS transponder added to the integrity of the location, however I don't remember what it added and don't know if its still required. Things changed several times since 70's when it came out.
