    Default Hummingbird mega 4 gen

I’m looking at buying a hummingbird gen 4. Seeing $1199 price with transducer. Will I still need to buy the mega 360 transducer extra? Or will the original trans be sufficient?

Mega DI + and SI + helix models only work with Mega 360 plugged into the transducer port, you can then if you want to network Mega 360 to other units, but they all have to be running the software upgrade version 2.28. Mega Live is supposed to be released sometime in March 2021.

I heard rumor that Mega 360 hooked to a Helix with DI+ will not show Mega 360 Side Imaging. It will show the 360 sweep, but not the SI feature of the 360. I haven't found anything confirming or denying that statement. I do see where DI models show 360, but it doesnt say anything about SI from the 360. Could someone clarify, will a Mega DI+ unit show Mega 360 SI?

In using a Mega 360, the mega 360 will show SI or 360 sweep but will not show both at the same time using the Mega 360 transducer. Mega 360 plugged into a MSI+ unit will block using the helix MSI+ transducer so it’s cheaper to by a MDI+ Helix depth finder to plug the M360 into. The picture quality of viewing SI imaging is actually very very perfect as after all, the M360 puck spinning around for the 360 view is actually SI transducer spinning around to put in a sense for you to understand what is working to give you a 360 view in Mega. When you adjust the settings of the M360 to view SI, it quits spinning and then you view SI off the unit it’s plugged into. You can network everything I have described to other Helix depthfinders that have the appropriate software for using the M360.

I just received a G4 N MDI+ 12 today. On the bow, I’m running MEGA 360 on the 12”. Below it,,I will have a MDI G3N 10” to view maps, 2d, DI and SI. On the console I will have a 9” G2N Mega SI..... all three networked. When I want to view SI will view it off the 10” up front while viewing the Mega 360 off the 12”. It’s the only way to view both the SI and Mega 360 at the same time up front .I could view networked off the 12 both SI and 360 but would rather have that full view or front view of the M360 on the 12”

You might hold off until next month and see what Mega live is like. Might be better might not be be. But from what I'm hearing it probably has an internal processor which means no black box. Plus it would be nice having to not buy buy a separate unit just for live and have one brand where everything is networkable. Course it might be horrible like Lowrances first version was.
