    Default Hummingbird 197C doesn't read

Wife bought it for me a couple years back. Fast forward to now when I can actually get out onto the water. It was a suction cup to stick it to the side of a canoe. The bottom reading is way off as in reads is 6 foot of water and is closer to 18 inches. Even out in deeper water it doesn't do any better. Would a new transducer help in this or is it just garbage to start with?

Could be something to do with how your mounting it. If it’s never been used I’m doubting a new transducer going to solve your problem. Next time out make sure it’s pointing straight down and not shooting off to the side or picking up part of the mount. Most finders are not going to give you very good readings in really shallow water they get really erratic. I’d sure try fooling with it some before I condemned anything.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried it on the back of a small aluminum boat as well. Same results. Will have to try some other variations on mounting as the suction cup deal seems kind of hokey to start with. I am in hopes others with the same unit will chime in with their results. We moved here about 6 years ago between Lake Enid and Grenada.

Well welcome to the site and welcome to the area. You are are in a prime area for some fantastic back water fishing in that canoe. Hope you get it figured out. If you have anymore questions don’t hesitate to ask. That’s what we are here for, to help one another.
