Default Humminbird’s latest Updates with new basemaps.

I think I would wait and not do the new updates Humminbird just released. Lots of issues right off the bat this week on bbc forum.

    1. Do not update the 7 helix g1 or g2 models or you will turn them into bricks and they won’t work. HB is bring out another update after the 20th supposedly. If you did update and locked it up,,contact HB as you will probably have to send it to them.

    2. For those that used HB’s basemaps,,,it’s a extremely large file and not sure of glitches showing up.

    3. This update stopped the HB users from going back installing to a previous software that the users could do, if they didn’t like the newest update they were installing. It seems that HB intentionally designed the latest update with the code written in it to keep us from doing this.

    4. There is a couple of glitches showing up with users that have already update.

I did the updates and in the garage and outside for gps reception have no issues, but have not had my units in the water to test out yet and will keep everybody posted. I updated a 7 DI G3N, a 9 MSI G2N, and a 10 MDI+ G3N and hope I don’t now own,,3 bricks.

As for (2), I find your suspicions unfounded. The files contain overall CRCs as well as block level CRCs, and are verified by the bootloader prior to loading in flash, so the possibility of loading a file with a bad byte in it is basically impossible, regardless of size. That is standard practice in SW engineering for just about everything. Of course, if the programmers introduced a bug and didn't find it in review or QC or QA, and testing, well, it is just bad code and not a "glitch".

BBC is a zoo sometimes, hate to say it. I have just about quit going there because of all the noise. I have not noticed any "glitches" or bugs yet, but I've only fished once since I did the upgrade.

Several members 7 g2’s has frozen after downloading,,including Wayne’s in bbc Humminbird forum. Then yesterday Humminbird pulled all software updates off their website for the 7’s. Do what you want as all I did was warn those that consider upgrading and personally,,I have no issues with the download or the basemaps download to my 3 units but have not been on a lake to run them. Time will tell. Humminbird for the past couple of years hasn’t been releasing perfect updates with various minor glitches in all of them so what would make this download any different especially with once you download and decide it’s not for you, you cannot re-install a previous version of software and your permanently stuck with the upgrade from now on. The choice is yours to upgrade or not.

^^^^^ Have to agree there is nothing in the new update that I need most of the map updates is salt water related, for down riggers, Power poles, and radar update. Me if my unit is working the way I want and there is nothing I need in the update it ain`t going to happen .

The only thing I pay attention to on bbc forum is their Humminbird section on HB electronics and boat electronics section is to read and study other setups, wiring issues, and updates issues. It’s a good source of info with even a few comments from users from other nations besides the USA.

Verify the update is for your specific unit model ...

The unit will not recognize an update bin file for any other unit model ...
    ——-

Also ... some update downloads are downloading as a zip folder (not sure about yours) ... if that’s the case the zip folder must be extracted and put on the SD Card ...

That wasn't the problem, had the right one, after reading what is included in this update, it doesn't do much for inland fishing anyway unless you are running talons or downriggers. I'll pass on this one.

I have 2 Helix 10 G2N Mega SI units that are having issues after installing the latest 2.280 software and 1.031 basemap.

When in map view, if you zoom in, they beep for 3-5 seconds then the unit restarts. I've emailed Humminbird, but going off what I've been reading(and should have read before installing), any G2N unit should avoid this update.
