Thread: Livescope Bad for starting battery?

No idea, I have my Garmin stuff on a dedicated group 31 AGM deep cycle.
I have had zero issues.

Livescope can pull @ 4.8a/hr max.... so, yeah (IMHO) it could drain your starting battery down quite a bit more than is good for the battery. Most people I know have gone to a dedicated battery just for the Livescope black box. I did, too.

Helix 10 Gen 2, Garmin 74sv, GLS 10, and Garmin 8610xsv all on starting battery (2 in parallel) along with live well aerator, lights (not often) and a couple other things. Fish all day with no issue whatsoever. Short 10 minute run between brushpiles keeps battery’s charged up just fine.

2 Helix10G2s, 93+sv and GLS10 module on the starting battery, Duracell agm size 31.

I do put the helm Helix in standby mode when fishing the bow position.

Normally fish 5-7 hrs.

No problems so far.

To answer the original question. Starting battery are not built for deep discharges and hard recharging. For your situation you really need a dual purpose deep cycle battery....bigger the better....a group 29 or 31and of course a bank from a onboard charger hooked to it to charge it back up good when you get home.

"G" brings up a good point.

I should have given the agm model number as there are different battery specs for different agm batteries, some of which are listed as a combination or dual use.
