    Default Humminbird not shutting down

Here lately my humminbird 899 si not wanting to shut down. I push the button it counts down till shutdown comes up on the screen then it go's off and then comes back on. It then stays on no matter which buttons are pushed until I go to the fuse at the battery to kill the power. I have check the battery power and 12ga wire was used to power unit which was sortered to wires. Never had any problems up until here lately. Have any of y'all had this problem and how did you fix it other than buying a new unit which I can't afford at this time.

My 899 bird would start up then shut down restart get to a view screen and then start the process all over again. Wouldn't stop till I pulled the plug on it. Reconnect the power and same thing again. I never did fix it bought a Helix 8.

Scrat, I’d say it has something to do with the buttons needing cleaned. They are mounted in a rubber material designed to hold the buttons. On the very end inside is a carbon type paternal impregnated into the rubber. When pressed they contact a circuit board completing a circuit for which ever button you are pushing. I took a 597 apart and cleaned those ends and circuit board with finger nail polish remover. Never had anymore trouble with it. My 998 does same as yours once in awhile but will eventually turn off. Just to lazy to fool with it until it completely quits. According to them cutting power that way is not good for unit.

Thanks for the information. Being that it's inside the unit being the problem l will just live with it until it dies and start saving up to get another sonar one of these days.

If it gets to that point and you get another unit just let me know. I’d be glad to take it apart and see if I could revive it for you. Would cost you anything but shipping.

Sure glad to hear Humminbird isn't shutting down, There's too many companies doing that due to losses caused by all the virus BS.

Have you tried a factory reset? That often fixes a lot of problems on any electronics gear.
