Question I HAVE A PROBLEM!! HELP!!!

OK. Where I work we get reward points for various things. Long story short I have almost a million points. Within the listed items in the rewards program was the Helix 9 DI. So...I called the rewards program and asked them to load into the listed rewards Helix 9 SI MEGA+GPS G3N. Well, it was listed but their description was a little vague. Then I got an email stating that the Helix 9 that I wanted was listed in the rewards items now but it didn't come with the transducer.

Does the G3N automatically come with the transducer?!? I thought it did.

    Next question...

The Helix 8 SI MEGA+ GPS is also listed in the items I could spend points on. Again, the description is a bit vague and it doesn't list whether it has the transducer or not either. From what I've read here on CDC I think the 8 is brand new and only comes G3N and it has the transducer included?!?

    Lastly...

If you were in my situation would you take the 9and purchase the transducer separately or would you take the 8?!?

I plan on calling CS Monday and see if there's someone that can actually read from the box to tell me if both units are Gen 3. If I cannot get anybody on the phone that can do that I'm stumped. What to do, what to do, what to do...

Any help with solid advice is more than welcomed here. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I have already bought the rubber screen proctor while traveling for the 9. Does it also fit the 8?!?

If the box says "Helix 9 Chirp Mega SI+ GPS G3N CHO" it only has the control head and no transducer. "CHO" means control head only. Best to get the actual Humminbird part number and check it against the item on the humminbird website.

Helix 9 CHO = Item # 410860-1CHO <- notice the "CHO" in the part number (Control Head Only, no transducer)
Helix 9 with transducer = Item # 410860-1 <- notice it does not include the "CHO"

My Helix 9 (Item # 410860-1) came with a rubber cover. Pretty sure they are included. You would have to compare the dimensions of the units to see if the cover you bought will fit. All info you seek is on the Humminbird website.

The dimensions of all the Helix models is in the back of the Helix manual document. The Helix 8 is a couple inches smaller than the Helix 9, so I am pretty positive the covers are different, and not interchangeable.

When I bought my Helix 8 CHO it didn't have a cover. I had to purchase it separately. I use the 8 with my MK T/M.

My understanding is the Helix 8 and smaller doesn’t have covers. 9 and up has them.

Correct that HELIX 8 is G3N only ...

As jawjatek mentioned a CHO unit (control head only) has CHO in the model number ...

Does the listing show the model number ...??

Neither of the listings for either depthfinder doesnt say and the person I can talk with doesnt have a clue about depthfinders. Since I'm not having to pay for the unit I will go ahead and let them send me the 9 and I'll purchase the transducer if one isnt with the unit. It will still be an outstanding purchase for me if all I have in it is the price for the transducer and the LakeMaster chip. Oh yea, and a ram mount. Now, whenever that state the warehouse is in re-opens then maybe somebody will get to work and get me my package in the mail! Thanks for your help guys. Atleast I know a little more about these units than I did.

The G3 8 and G3 9 are the same physical unit, the 9 just has a larger display in it. The 8 will have a larger black border. In the G1 and G2, the 9 and the 10 were the same physical size.

If it were me, I would get the 9 since you will not save any room on the boat by getting the 8.

As mentioned by others, CHO means control head only. This is new for the G3s, and was not previously an option with the G1 or G2. My suspicion is this model was introduced due to the multiple offerings of transducers now in trolling motors, as well as the MEGA 360.

In any event, you can certainly buy the transducer separate. Not sure how much it is for the 8/9, or if it's the same as the 10, but I know the ones for the 10s & 12s run several hundred dollars for a MEGA+ SI unit.
