Default Opinions on fishfinders with built in GPS

    Hey guys,

I finally upgraded out of my inflatable kaboat and into an alumacraft. I currently have a garmin striker but am looking into getting a unit with built in GPS navigation.

What's the best decent priced unit out there right now?

I've lost lots of work with this virus mess so not loaded right now. Appreciate your .

    Thanks!

The 5" Humminbird Helix is hard to beat for the money.
Everybody preaches bigger size but that not required to get excellent basic structure and coordinate location.
The good news is you can pick up a used,
like new unit for $150-$250 on here or similar places.
So you can be in business for half or less what even the cheapest 7-9" units run and see how you like it.
Then you can see how you like the unit and if you decide later you want bigger or better you've got an excellent 2nd unit to accompany it.I

What lakes will you be fishing? Don't buy a used helix and then learn it has maps for some other region. A new map card could run $100 more.

You would need a chip card for your area to get the most out of the 7" but that's a good price on the unit.
If you have to buy a map card be aware that Navionics sections their maps by region. So you'd need their east region which covers NC/SC.

You can use a an Android or Mac tablet with the Navionics app. It only costs 14 dollars for a subscription to the depth contours... here is a screenshot from it on my phone....it has very good charts, shows you location (best if device has a GPS, some tablets don't) and you can use on multiple devices, including a pc laptop. I use it for creating routes for my ProNav Marine spot lock i added to my trolling motor. Big thing will be how good does the display work in sunlight. I hear a Galaxy Tab does well in sunlight... but you can try it free without the contours...Name: Screenshot_20200326-231604_Boating%20HD.jpeg
