Default Anything i can do other than send for service

When I bought my boat about a month ago it came with a helix 12 chrip gps gen 1 mounted at the bow. It has worked ok but i noticed two things.
    1. It would occasionally freeze with the loading of maps or switching screens
    2. When i removed the map card it had water on it. if i reinsert and remove more water.

I took unit off and tried to gently turn upside down to see if water would run out. None ran out but when reinserted cards they would still have some water on them (both slots). I used a air blower on room temp air to try and dry and after i reconnected now the buttons dont want to respond and the screen is now distorted. I am assuming i fried the inside and they want 320.45 to fix. Not likely to spend that money. other than time and luck is there anything i can do?

    All responses appreciated.

Get you a plastic container that you can seal up good that finder will fit in and deep enough that a bed of rice and finder will sit on. Get you a big bag of rice and pour you a good bed. Then place finder in leave card door open making sure not to get any rice in it. Seal up and forget it for a week or two. That rice should absorb most if not all that moisture. Then hook it up and try it. Or you could call bird and see if they might not warranty it.

X2 on the rice idea. That has saved many a waterlogged electronic device for me. iPods, cameras, phones, etc.... I had a phone that spent a couple hours on the bottom of a creek after I had a car wreck. After I found it I took it home and put it on rice for 10 days (I also threw a few of those packets out of beef jerky in with it). And when I pulled it out of the rice, I charged it and it worked like new! Used it another 2 years. I would definently give rice a try
