I'll end up trying something like that Cray. I have run through it many times in my head and can't come up with a good way to make it where I can unhook it.

It’s just sad that they cheaped out on such a good unit and rigged it with those Mickey Mouse clips instead of doing it like they did on older units. Kind understand the idea of making more affordable and fighting the competition but I have seen so many posts about same problem on different fishing pages it’s not funny. My 7 doesn't even have that set up. But I never take mine off and I have never had a problem with them coming loose. I guess your just going to have to put your fabrication cap on and figure something out. I’m sure there has to be a way to rig it where you can disconnect and still have it held tight.

I know. It's actually ridiculous to spend that much money on a unit that relies on 2, 1/16" long, 1/16" thick plastic tabs to keep the unit functional. They could have recessed that area and made a metal clip that would have never broken.

Here's the thing that really tells me how weak that system is. I haven't taken that unit off the boat in 6 months or more. It's on the bow and hard to get to, so I just leave it on there. The cable is rolled up in front of the unit and zip tied in place. The cable didn't move, the unit didn't move, it just failed.

Get some sticky sided Velcro clean unit and stick one part to the unit and make a loop over the cable connector.

Have read all of the post regarding this issue and wondering if contacting Humminbird might yield some positive results? Trying to help cover all of the bases.
