Default False depth reading on depth finder

I have a Lowrance hook 7 on the front end of my boat. It is connected to a minn Kota Fortrex with a built in transducer and no exposed wiring. Why does it consistently give false readings when compared to my in dash unit?

How much is the difference. I have a bird on the console and up front. With a built in transducer in the T/M, as nd the console is mounted on the transom. With a 16 foot boat I can get some very different Depth readings from front to back.

Pretty significant. I’d say anywhere from 2-5 feet

Make sure the correct transducer is selected in the DF settings. Mine was still set for my original transducer and caused inconsistent readings . It has to match the properties of the built in unit.
Don't forget the Fortrex transducer is probably a foot to 2 feet deeper in the water than the transducer on the transom.

Does it always read deeper or shallower or some of Both? If it's just one deeper or always shallower you could adjust your depth offset on the Lowrance to read the same as your other unit.

I’ll take a look at that.
    Thanks!

    I’ll check it out.

Where do I find the option for transducer settings?

In the setup menu on the DF. The built in is probably a generic 85/200. You can find that on the Fortrex spec sheet.
I had been running DI on my Hook 7 so I had it set for 85/200&455/800 so I changed the setting to the plain 2D 85/200 and it seems to be fine now.

Humminbird has an water depth offset setting on it so you can adjust the water depth reading to make up for the depth difference between when the map was made and the current water depth. I would assume Lowrance has the same.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.
