A motor becomes a generator in this case. What trolling motor do you have?
I want to map a lake using a transducer attached to my trolling motor. But to save time, i need to use my main motor to do it.
So trolling motor is deployed with main motor running 5 mph?
Will the prop spin backwards and damage the unit?
I can remove the prop i suppose. But reattaching prop on the lake would be tough.
Thanks

You u could strap the prop in a fixed position with a bungee cord.
This could cause some water turbulence near the transducer. Try it.

If your trolling motor is a Minn Kota power drive or terrova (may work on other models), pull your motor back in the boat with the prop up. It will wedge
in the yoke of the base. Slide the locking collar down to it and tighten. It will stay like in a vise. Replace sheer pin and prop.
Tell'em I'll be there.
Sorry, i don't understand what you're saying here.

Removing the prop will prevent it from having any generator effect

I would not trust free spinning a prop on a digital controlled motor. If it were a plane jane tm, then it wouldn't hurt anything, but you might could loose a prop. Ask me.

I've done it with my xi5 before, I just run the trolling motor at about half speed keeps the trolling motor shaft from bending back under the boat so much, doesn't use much trolling battery power up cause it's not pulling.
