Default Installation Help of Transducer on Trolling Motor (Motorguide)

Hey guys, silly question but on facebook this guy is telling me that he has been fishing 30+ years and everyone is wrong here. ..

According to youtube, you install it facing backwards facing the trolling motor blades. My trolling motor will be on the back of a jon boat. I don't want it facing backwards because I want to know what I am coming up on not what I have passed.

What is the best way to mount this tranducer to the trolling motor? This is my first time doing this.

    Thanks

Forget facebook, and youtube. Follow the installation recommended by the manufacturer. Give them a call.

    Transducer to what unit ??

If it's on the transom mounted trolling motor ... it's going to show you "what you've passed" unless it's a Livescope. And if it is a Livescope, the only reason you'd want it pointing backwards is if you were trolling and wanted to watch the fish react to your baits.

Mount it either way. It doesn’t know back from front. Mount it where and how it fits the best without putting cable in a bind or create a pinch point. As Pappy said it’s only reading what you are passing over no matter which way it’s facing.

You left out some crucial information. What type of transducer? Side image or basic 2d or DI. I'm assuming not livescope considering your jon boat will be under power by a trolling motor. With 2d or Di it wouldn't make a difference. If it's SI then if installed backwards your left to right side image would be displayed on screen backwards. Your left would be right and right would be left. With 2d or di it wouldn't really matter. And not sure why the guy on Facebook is saying were all wrong. This is the 1st time the question was presented I assume.

If you want to know what you're coming up on, mount it to the front of the boat.
