The "trick" I was shown by a Garmin rep was to use the center ridge line of the transducer as the guide during installation, port or starboard.

The center ridge line is always 1 click up from horizontal for forward view and horizontal for down view, no matter which side of the shaft it is mounted.

The image that Rickie just posted shows this very well.

The orientation of the cable is changed due to the mounting bracket on which side it is mounted, but the center ridge line angle is the same for both installations.

I think the confusion comes in when the direction of travel of the Tmotor is changed in the illustration.

#1 and #2 the direction of travel is to the left (port side mounting)
#3 and #4 the direction of travel is to the right (starboard side mounting)

Concur with #1 and #2 but the directions and photo is wrong for #3 and #4. The long angled side is forward no matter which side you mount it on. I called (and held for 64 minutes) to speak to a technician when I first mounted the transducer and he admitted the manual had it wrong. The smaller steps of the transducer is the rear of the transducer.

Now, saying all that, it also does not appear to matter according to tech support as the transducer apparently learns what direction you are going and will adjust. Go figure that one out. I hope this makes sense as I wrestled with this for a solid month before finally breaking down and calling tech support.

You have apparently misunderstood the tech group. The pics that Rickie and I posted are exactly correct. And the info that MikeF posted is accurate as well. I have had the transducer mounted on both sides and the pics are correct. Don't doubt Rickie.

I would never doubt Rickie as I totally believe in him and his knowledge. My last comment is that, in my opinion, the cable of the transducer should be to the rear of the transducer puck so the long angled side is facing forward whether it is on the port or starboard side. I apologize if there is any perceived criticism of anyone particularly Rickie. My only dog in this hunt was to share my conversations about the erroneous pictures from the original owners manual related to me by tech support and to help anyone that agonized over this issue as much as I did. I will now back out of this thread and wish everyone tight lines.
