    Default MEGA 360 question

I have a humminbird helix 9 MDI G3N on the front of my boat and was thinking about getting a MEGA 360. My first question is would the 9" screen be big enough to see detail or would I need a bigger unit? I know bigger is always better but it also cost a lot more and I would need to add that to the decision of if it would be worth it to get the mega 360 in the first place. My second question is If I was to get a helix g2n 12" or 10" (or solix G1) and connect it to the helix 9" MDI g3n, would the mega 360 image have to be shown on both units or could i see the 360 image on the g2n and see maps, 2D or di on the g3n? I am just trying to figure a way of getting more for my buck. Thanks for any replies or suggestions.

Be sure and check with HB to make sure your unit will take the new mega 360.

According to there website the helix 9 MDI G3N is the mega+ and the mega 360 should plug right into it. Also according to there website you can view the mega 360 images on a G2N mega unit if it is networked to a mega + G3N unit but I just don’t know if that means the mega 360 image will be shown on both units or can I use maps, chirp, or DI on the G3N unit and mega 360 on the G2N unit when networked together.

You can only network helix to helix and Solix to Solix for one answer. Only helix to helix networked, you can share is waypoints, Solix to Solix networked, you can share maps and waypoints. Mega 360 has to be plugged into the transducer port of helix of which if you were getting a 9 Mega DI+ or SI+ G3N then plug it in and if networked to other helix models your mega 360 is viewable.
if Using a Y cable, the 9 M360 2DDI Y, you can plug the Y cable into your 9 mega plus G3N DI+ or SI+ Then plug the Mega 360 into one side of the Y and your transducer to the helix into the other side. If using a SI model transducer plugged in, the Y cable will only show DI and 2d and you will have to use the Mega 360 for viewing SI so you would save money buying a 9 Mega DI+ G3N. If you have a trolling motor with a DI or 2d built in transducer, you could plug it into the Y cable and mega 350 to the other side if the Y. You have that option. Reason for using a Y cable is to get a depth reading on the mega 360. If networked, you could get the depth reading off other unit networked.

Here is what I have. I have a 9 mega SI g2n on the console and transducer on the back of my boat. I have a 7 DI mega g3n up front for 2d, DI if I want it, and charts (maps). I have a 10 Mega DI+ g3n with the Y cable and the 10’s transducer plugged in and the Mega 360 and all of it networked. I have no transducer on the 7 and can get all depth, temp, 2d, DI off the 10. Even Si off the 9 or SI off the mega 360 as all you do is change network settings. I can if I wanted to, see and use mega 360 on all 3. Just remember that on the 7 because I have no transducer plugged in, go into your settings and turn “sonar settings “ OFF.

When buying the Mega 360, you do not get a Y cable, ( have to buy it)the one for helix is the 9 M360 2 DDI Y. The one for Solix is 14 M360 2DDI Y. Also you do not get a AS GPS HS GPS heading sensor like we got when we purchased the gen1 360. You can if your trolling motor use Link if it has it for exact headings and marking waypoints. If you don’t have link on the trolling motor, then you can get one of the AS GPS HS pucks. Otherwise you can use your built in GPS of the unit you have the Mega 360 plugged into. If not using link or the AS GPS HS puck, you will maybe experience the little donuts for your boat location on your charts or maps at 0.6 or slower mph sometimes going invisible on you. It definitely gives you a more precise heading and waypoint as you create waypoints. The link and AS GPS HS will show a small boat icon on maps and on your DI SI and Mega 360 screen vs the donut.

Mega 360 comes with either a bracket to mount on Fortrex or Ultrex trolling motors. I use a Da Ducer built by Rickie of Podunk ideas.com. Cornfieldcrappiegear.com also has a custom built bracket for trolling motors, not sure of the models.

Thanks Cevans for that lesson!!! The way you have your boat setup can you have the 360 image on your helix 9 G2N and Charts (maps) on the helix 10 G3N at the same time? I know this would not be something you would use in your boat but it would answer my question.

On a Helix the views using Mega 360 are :

    Full screen 360
    360/2D
    360/DI
    360/2D/DI
    360/Chart

Ok then can you have full screen 360 on your 9” G2N and full screen chart (maps) on your 10” G3N at the same time?

Ahhh, got me, not sure but you might have had to turn on Mega 360 on the 10 first as that will be your primary unit to turn on first in a network with 360 even if it’s not in the water. Just don’t turn on ping. then switch to the 9 then switch charts on the 10 but you have to have the two networked. I’m not going to be able to get to check that thru Feb. as tied up with trade shows. I see no need for your charts to be in full view on a 10.

I just looked up one fact I got wrong and this is a correction: If you want to mark and view waypoints on the 360 view, you need the AS GPS HS or iPilot LINK.
