HELIX 8 and 9 in G3N are the same except for viewable screen size ...

You might keep your eye open on bbc forum in electronics forum for sale. If you do decide to buy there be sure to fill out your profile is the only requirement and register. Lots of sales and good used low hour Humminbirds but they get snapped up fast as the guys are upgrading. Just have to frequently keep eyeballing to buy. Electronics

Helix 9 comes with a $40 cover. Helix 8 does not.

SI units are both MEGA+, Helix 9 DI is MEGA+, Helix 8 DI is MEGA

Yes, the original 360. I have it in the "front" view, which fills the screen better.
I'm planning to upgrade to MEGA 360 as soon as I can get my hands on one

Sounds like most agree on hummingbird mega unit. Curious though is Garmin better without the maps? I do fish some of the big lakes but most times fish smaller lakes I’m sure aren’t mapped.
It looks like Randleman Lake is the closest to you that's available on Lakemaster. You can purchase the HD contours from Chartselect and view on a phone/tablet for $9.99 …. or create your own personal maps of the lakes you choose with Autochart Live on Humminbird units

I was planning on using the autochart to map some of the areas I fish to get a better understanding of them. If/when I can afford and purchase a unit. Seems like very cool technology. With DI, SI and autochart I'm sure it will improve my fishing for the better.

OK I'm leaning towards the Helix 9 now but should I save longer and go for livescope? Is it capable of doing the other functions or just a one trick pony? I know ideally one would have SI to find fish then maybe DI to check structure or livescope to fish for them. And can livescope map lakes? I'm only going to purchase one device and want the best bang for buck and one that best serves my needs. Also I'm fishing from kayak so space and power requirements need to be considered.
