Default Dropped my Helix 7 in the water- Qurstions?

Probably in the water for 2 minutes.

Removed map card cover and micro card

water ran out of the slot

Left it propped up slot down overnight.

Put it in a plastic shoebox and buried it in white rice

Plan on leaving in there at least 2 days

any other suggestions before I try powering it up in 3 days?

If the warranty is up I would pop the case open and let dry ...

    Thanks Rickie,

Successful disassembly, letting it dry overnight, testing it out tomorrow, confident it will work.

It is a myth that putting wet electronics in rice dries them out. If you put them in rice and they work they were going to work anyway.

While I agree with you, I think the electronic gadget and rice in a bag concept was to expedite the process of drying it out. It will obviously dry by itself at some point.

Good luck on your unit powering up! Let us know how that goes.

I disagree. The rice acts like a dessicant and will absorb moisture. It may not work tho if there is a lot of water in it.

Agree. I've seen too many cell phones revived to discount this cure. At the very least it doesn't hurt to try.

I think much of the success rate depends on whether electronics were powered on at the time they got wet. Those under power don't fare nearly as well. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
