    Default Help with transducer

I need assistance in selecting a transducer for my trolling motor.
I have a Helix 10 G2N chirp mega Si with transducer installed on the transom, but want an additional transducer on my trolling motor. The trolling motor is a 12 volt mk older model and the transducer that I wanted is listed as not compatible with less than 80 lb motor.
Don't know enough to know if I want SI on the front but would like chirp mega Di and wide angle would be great.
    Thanks

I'm curious myself why the HB website says this is not compatible with a TM of less than 80lb thrust ... (maybe the length of the xducer - I'm not sure) ...

Can you post a Pic of the foot of the TM ...??

Length of the xducer will definitely be an issue with your TM because of the skeg being at the front ... (and maybe this is HB's reasoning) ...

I have seen some guys notch the skeg for a longer xducer ...
I have seen some guys modify by mounting the xducer to the side of the skeg ...

While it is possible to use a shorter xducer - this will greatly reduce the capabilities in the features of, (and the quality of images) in your investment of the HELIX MEGA ... (because the longer xducers are part of the hardware advancement in the MEGA technology) ...

We can get measurements of shorter xducers if this is still your decision ...

Do not go smaller with the transducer as it is key to utilizing the “Mega” aspect of your Bird. I would follow up with Rickie to see the particulars in notching the skeg. JMHO.

This is a Mega DI transducer on a new 24v 80lb Terrova.

Pretty big transducer and with the ruler in the pic, it may help in your research.

Transducer is about 71/4" long but is built in to motor.
The transom mount transducer may be slightly shorter with mounting bracket.

The suggestion of mounting the transducer on the fin may work with your motor.

    Good Luck

    Thanks for all your advice.
I already have the xducer from the box installed on the transom, so the tm mount was just a thought.
I am restoring a pf16 and really want to put an ulterra with the mega xducer built in, but my boat is currently wired for 12 volts. I was thinking of getting a terrova, but since they are on backorder, I have to wait anyway.
I had this NOS tm in my basement so I thought about just mounting it for a couple of months. Then I could see if the boat could handle having 2 batteries installed on the rear. The boat may be a slug anyway, so it may not matter. Changing it to a 24 volt system is not a big deal mechanically, just weight concerns.
    Thus my long winded explanation.
    Thanks again

Just to answer your original question ...

Your HELIX G2N SI can use just about any HB 9pin xducer with the "house shaped" cable connector ...changing the Connected Transducer selection to the appropriate selection ...

(MEGA + xducer would need newest software) ...

Thanks for the info. I'll look for a dimensionally correct xducer.
I updated the software this week.
