Default Terrova and minn Kota charging

Got a 12 v terrova that I am running 2 batteries parallel. I just got a minn Kota 220 charger that I am installing. I have a battery switch that has 1,2 and both options. What is the best way to set this up so I can charge both batteries and not hurt my terrova which is hard wired up front. I would like to use just one charger lead for this the other one goes to the cranking battery.
    thanks

I have mine hooked up parallel with just jumpers between the 2 I have one set of leads hooked to first battery and it charges both at same time. I will assume that both would put them both hooked together at same time so in would say hook to first battery place switch on both and it should charge them both at same time..

Hook the charger leads up to one battery, and have the switch set to 1+2 while charging. This way the batteries are still isolated, if you wanted to keep one in reserve.

Keep in mind that charge amperage will be cut in half and take longer when split between two batteries.

Terrovas cut power when deployed so there is no worry of hurting it.

I thought I saw somewhere that you could damage the board on trolling motors if the charger and trolling motor weren't isolated during charging?

That is a possibility, but like I said, Terrovas automatically disconnect power when stowed. With others you should flip the breaker before charging.

Thanks for the input I have been disconnecting the terrova before charging.

I have never disconnected my Terrova for around 5 years. It is on the PdV and PdV2 motors that you have to make sure to disconnect. They draw current even when stored. Have read about those units with GPS in the head being destroyed by having current to them constantly and overheating. When boat is stored they should be disconnected charging or not. And not meaning to steal biskitboy’s thread.

I don't know that it applies to all TMs but on Fortrex and newer Bluetooth TMs, it is recommended by many to disconnect the TM either with a disconnect switch or by disconnecting the switch. I use a separate cutoff switch in bilge area for both the cranking and TM batteries.
