    Default Marking weed lines/ edges

Thinking ahead to ice fishing season here a bit. I'm thinking I would be smart to somehow mark the outer edges of the weed edges on some of the ponds that I plan to fish this winter. I'm looking for the best way to achieve this. There is no hi-def documentation on my H-bird maps of the waters I fish. Just the names and a few contour lines that in my experience are not too accurate based on my time on these waters.

My initial thought would be to row around, offset out to the deeper water with the SI on and drop waypoints on the basic geometry of the line of weeds, either in real time or from recordings. I don't think I'm looking to document every single little curve in and out but rather the general shape of it as I go along. Basic depth could be noted as well from snapshots generated at the same time. Obviously, I could mark any other type of structure such as humps or 'gill beds or boulder fields at the same time.

The down side of this will be the sheer number of way points but knowing that they are depicting a contour, not a spot, would be a reference to me this winter.

My sonar is a Gen. 1 Helix 10 so it does have the mapping capability ( I'm pretty sure it does anyway, I've never used it like that). I'm not sure that simply mapping would provide me the info I'm trying to generate.

Does this sound like a workable plan or is there a simpler way of doing what I propose and end up with the same result? I most likely won't be doing the entire shoreline, just the area of the waters where I would be able to walk to this winter with my gear.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Follow the edge of the weed bed while creating a trail on your graph. When your done save the trail.
Im assuming you can do that with your Humminbird units. I run Lowrance.

Yes, trails can be saved. I think I have them turned off at the moment. Thanks for that idea.
