    Default Adding a gps puck

I have a Helix 7 and when my speed gets to less than 1.6-1.7 while trolling my gps heading starts jumping around on the screen. I am wondering if it's possible to add an external gps puck and if it would solve my problem.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

Map settings such as course up etc. can have that effect. Do you have the GPS output setting on 10Hz ? I think 10Hz refreshes 10 times a second and 5Hz 5 times a second.

What you need is a compass, or heading sensor. The GPS only knows your position and tries to calculate a heading, but it isn't accurate at slow speeds, as you have found. HB sells the AS GPS HS puck that would do what you want.

And it works flawlessly. Rickie told me about it a couple of years ago. So glad! It also maintains the direction icon of the boat on your monitor in the correct direction at slow speed. Well worth the investment, in my opinion.

If you have a gen 1 Helix 7 the heading sensor puck will not work unless you are willing to cut into and add wires to the puck cable to pick up power. I did it and it works great.

I'm kind of surprised it didn't come with it in the box.

No it is an add on and worth every penny, in my opinion.
