no luck, (not knowing how much you want to spend) from what I've seen over the years any of the SI units when tuned in will show you beds. I'm not brand specific when I comes to electronics (all have or do something over the other it seems) but with that being said I really like what the HB has to offer. These days you can pick up a SI unit at a good price without all the bells and whistles. Even a used one, if you can find a used 898 or 998 in good shape you can't go wrong. Yes bigger is better but even a smaller screen well tuned will do what you want. Hope it helps

Bream beds can be tricky if not in deeper open water, what I mean is it some units can blur them out. Its hard to get a good image right up along an uneven shoreline. You want the most detailed unit that you can afford. Humminbirds new helix g3 units are the ticket for a lot of people, the new helix 7 g3 has mega imaging which is VERY detailed. I would not suggest any smaller than 7". One step below the helix mega g3 would be about every other unit, old helix g1/g2, core unit humminbird (800, 900, 1000 series), garmin 73/93, lowrance elite ti.

I have a Helix-9 and like it . I will say that mine was not as clear as others I had seen . I recently found the answer though . I was attempting to set setting by going the normal route . A friend showed the much easier adjustment using the +/- on the zoom buttons to accomplish a better picture .

Biggest issue I see with people using SI is trying to look out too far and the details get smaller and harder to see. I normally keep my SI on about 60ft left and right and the beds look like big old dinner plates and are very easy to see and it makes no difference for the most part the water depth.

Each manufacturer has their strong points and for SI Hummingbird is pretty well known for being top of the class. Try to get a 9" or bigger unit for SI as the details are much easier to see.

Of course this is my opinion and we all know what they are like.

If you can stretch your budget just a tad further ... consider the Helix 8 chirp meaga SI+ G3N. It has all the bells and whistles of the larger units for less bucks.
One of the board sponsors might be able to get you one for close to $1100.

Anything smaller than the 8 doesn't have as much power and don't have as good of transducer. If you are going to invest in one ... spend a little bit more an get the 8... you will be glad you did.

You couldn’t go wrong with the helix 9 si mega gen 2 in the classifieds for 900 bucks

here is a couple pics from a mega 10 gen 2. and they would be clearer if screen shot on the unit but I screen shot them with cell phone and these are in shallow water 2-4’
