I just got the Helix 8 CHIRP Mega SI+ Mega DI+ G3N, model 410830-1 for $1,060 that included shipping and sales tax.

I bought it for the same reason you want one, had the same budget, did a ton of research and that's what I settled on. Got started on install this past weekend, should have it up and running soon just in time for redear.

One of the board sponsors might be able to get you one for close to $1100.

Anything smaller than the 8 doesn't have as much power and don't have as good of transducer. If you are going to invest in one ... spend a little bit more an get the 8... you will be glad you did.
    Agreed.

This is from a helix 10 gen2 mega. The depth shows 19 ft. but they were much shallower than that. I was at 19 ft. When I stopped the screen and zoomed in and took the screenshot.

You'll get the same quality image with the 8 that you will with a 10 or 12 .... just less screen real estate. Not sure on the pixel count comparisons.

Find you an older 1100 series bird.
They find bream beds with fish in them just fine.

And you can probably find one where someone has upgraded pretty reasonable.
