Default Does it have to be a Humminbird box?

To network two finders and a trolling motor do I have to use a Humminbird networking box or can I use one like I have on my home computer? What is the difference?
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

Gonna have to use the Humminbird 5 port Ethernet switch. The Ethernet cable connectors are not the same as a home Ethernet box.

I have seen a few posts over the years of people planning to try to adapt to a standard Ethernet switch but have never seen any of them post back that they were successful.

The difference is the connectors the Hbird connectors are industrial M12/8 ethernet boxes all work the same just the connections are different.
