Default Thoughts on two small units on bow or one big

I am rigging up New to me boat.
Gonna put an ulterra on the front with the built in mega DI transducer.
Was thinkin about a helix 12. but now thinking I may like two 8s or 9s instead.
one DI and one SI with the DI to the TM and the SI sharing the transducer on the rear with a dash mounted SI unit.
and want those two units networked.
I am sure there are some here that have done both.
    looking for thoughts,pros/cons.

It would be nice to have 2 units, one dedicated to Di and one to maps, or Si. Compare the split screen on 12 with Di and Si up or maps to the two separate screens and figure how much coverage you would see.

That what i was thinking. and with the DI transducer in the ulterra I can use the spot lock without fear of twisting a cable into from having an external TD mounted on TM.
I think i could possibly see 2 8s better than one split 12.

2 9's would give you the screen real estate of one 18..... Plus you'd have a backup in case of a problem with one of them. Since you are getting the DI trolling motor you could have both units be the CHO models to save some money.

I'm thinking there is a difference between the 8 and the 9 with MDI, but I don't remember what it is .... maybe Rickie will check in and let you know if the MDI is the same or not.

HELIX 8 MEGA DI will not do MEGA DI+ thru the Minn Kota MDI (only MEGA DI) ...

HELIX 9 MEGA DI+ will do MEGA DI+ thru the Minn Kota MDI ...

MEGA+ has same detail with more range than MEGA DI (and the 2d piezo is better) ...

    Thanks Rickie.

I really wanted to put dual units on the bow. Had decided on 9s but seen a buddies rig today with the stack mount and I am never gonna be able to step over it!!!! (too short and fat for that)
Prolly gonna end up with a 10 or 12 up front. whichever fits between my rodholders the best.
