Default Extremely Important for Helix G1 and G2 USERS from Humminbird's Facebook Page!

This was just posted on BBC forum by a member who saw this on Humminbird's Facebook Page. Please Read on updating newest software! As of 10 minutes ago when I checked, Humminbird has not updated as of yet, their software site but evendently will.

    ******Extremely Important ******
Please take note Helix G1 and G2 users:
There will an official bulletin from Humminbird probably later today or perhaps tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure you were informed as soon as possible.
We will also update shortly the Humminbird website (software download area).

Please take action and update your processes and inform all your relevant staff, dealers and customers.
This information affects HELIX G1 & G2 units
If a unit is running old software (version 1.3x or earlier) and an attempt is made to update the unit to the latest software release (version 1.900) the unit will FAIL and be rendered unusable (it would need to be returned to Humminbird USA to be reflashed).
The solution is to firstly update the unit to software version 1.640 (available on the Humminbird extranet), and then you can update to version 1.900 without any problems.
Units that are already running 1.64 or newer are not affected and can be updated directly to 1.900.

I think I read this only affected the helix 5 & 7 units and not the 9 and up series.

May want to do a little extra research though just to play it safe.

Personally as wonky as HB updates can be if you are not experiencing some type of problem that an update would address I would leave well enough alone.

I have a Helix 9 bought last spring and still running the out of the box software with 0 problems, believe me I am not changing anything with some of the horror stories I have read with the functionality problems some experience.

Sort of a if it ain't broke don't fix it mentality.

Have to agree have a Helix 12 gen 1 works great and have never updated the software and do not intend to.

Same exact situation for me. My unit has been working great, and after the horror stories I’ve heard about losing waypoints and a whole host of other issues, I believe I’ll just leave mine alone.
