I know what you are saying. I was out of action for three years, one year with heart problems and two years taking care of my wife.

You can either take the power cord from your boat or buy a second power cord to use as home. Since I am lazy buying the second cord was the way I went.

You will need a dc power source at home, which can be a battery or a ac/dc converter. When you turn it on the unit will see no transponder is attached and will allow you to go into the demo mode to learn how to use it.

Already had a jump starter box for starting things with a cigarette plug. Got extra power cable from amazon. Be sure to fuse unit. Nice to get familiar with unit with all the bad days we have had.

Same as above but you will want to go into Simulator Mode. You can save nearly all settings in Simulator Mode for when you're back on the water. There is no way to connect direct to a TV with any of the current models. Sorry to hear about your wife. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your wife's health issues. Lots of good videos on the subject for sure... You can sit in your recliner and use simulator on your Mega with one of these ac adapters (under $20. Adapter, fuse and HB power chord (under $20 now ,I think). No lugging around stuff with these adapters; just plug and play (in simulator) ; X2 on be sure to use in line fuse. I think the 12s use 5amp and 10s use three???

The in-line fuse size is 4amps for the Helix 8-10 and 5amps for the H12 according to installation manual.

The problem with the Youtube videos is they are too fast for me to see and understand. They assume I am more advanced in my understanding of how to work the fish finder than I am.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.
