    Default Humminbird wont hum

Last year when I took my hummingbird 999 ci hd off the boat and put it in the truck it was working fine.
Now it doesn't work at all. Wont even power up. replaced the power cord. That didn't help. Cost $320 to send it to the repair shop. Ouch hate to spend my gas money on a old hummingbird. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

Have you checked to make sure you have good power to the plug? Double check your fuse connection especially if you have one of those round glass fuses. They are bad to corrode you could read 12 volts on meter but not be getting enough amps to power up unit. I’m going to assume it’s been riding around in truck al this time. If heat got to it you could have a problem with buttons.

With anything electronics .... stuff happens. If you have tested with a different power cable and direct to a fully charged battery you have done about all you can except maybe hook a different unit to the same installation and make sure it works.

If it was mine I’d probably tear into it which is not always the most pruden thing to do. For that money you will get back basically a brand new unit. Personally that’s pretty cheap money for the quality of the unit. You can’t touch anything close for that unless you just want a new unit. Plus you could get your money back plus a little extra if you sold it.

Make sure none of the buttons are "hung" under the plastic bezel ...

I would.get it out of the truck and put it someplace where it can sit in the sun or at least warm and low humidity. I have an 1198 that some how got moisture inside I usually stored it in a compartment in the boat all the time ( I don`t do that anymore ). Pulled it out and it would not work dried it out as mentioned and it has worked since then.

I have a 798 ci that was acting flakey. Sometimes it would power off etc. I opened it up and found wires that are just pushed into connectors. Which is (imho) poor quality workmanship. Especially considering all the vibration that occurs on the water. Maybe your problem is one of these poor connections. Hope you can fix it without paying an arm and a leg.
