    Default trolling motors

Can anyone advise if the motors of a Minn kota 5speed and a variable speed Trollmotor are wired the same with the different rpm being controlled by the control module in the head unit??? I have one of each but the motor in the variable unit may be going bad and I wondered if I could swap the control head from the variable speed to the 5 speed and get variable speed service out of it??? Both are 12v motors

The speed control for the 5 speed is inside the motor housing, and probably part of of the commutator cap. The speed control for the variable is in the head. It may be possible to convert the 5 speed to work with the variable, but you'd probably need to talk to an ASC to get the details. Not just a swap.
