    Default Linking two fishfinders together

What are the advantages of linking two fish finders together via Ethernet? I have a Humminbird 999 ci HD SI on the console and a Helix 7 DI GPS on the front deck. The Helix doesn't have side imaging. The 999 transducer is on the rear of the boat and the Helix transducer is on the trolling motor.
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

First of all keep in mind I am far from expert on this. However, I have a similar arrangement, a Helix 10 at console and a Humminbird 898 at bow. The difference is the Helix has a transducer but I don't have one for the 898. Therefore, I networked them so I could keep track of conditions while fishing at bow looking at the 898 which is getting its info from the Helix (Note: I learned that you have to turn the Helix CHIRP feature off to make things work). In your case each unit has it's own transducer so I see no need to network them. I hope others chime in on this topic as I may be missing something and I certainly don't want to impart wrong information.

Waypoint sharing would be the biggest advantage. You would be able to scan from the console and mark a waypoint ... go to the bow and have that waypoint show on the bow unit.

I'm pretty sure you would be able to share sonar with those models as well if everything is at the latest update, but I'm not up to speed on the capabilities of that Helix 7 model. I personally don't share sonar from one unit to the other, but some others use it quite a bit.

HELIX 7 must be G2N or G3N to be Ethernet capable (G1, G2, and G3 are not Ethernet capable) ...

The "N" in the listed model name indicates "Networking" ...

Not a Humminbird guy but all should work this way. If you are networked you can use just one "Hot Lakes" or what ever your flavor of map card. If not, you have to have a card for each depth finder.

You have to have a Solix or Onix system to share mapping.

Again not an expert but I have the 7 also with SI upgraded with the HD transducer -- if the unit does not have side Imaging the Frequency would not have a match to use with the one on Console -- also it will not Network

All GPS antennas on the network (internal and external) will be listed in the Network Source Menu ...

You choose which GPS antenna you want data coming from ...
