    Closer to center will definitely get the xducer farther down in the water for more consistent readings ...

    It is a good idea to keep far enough to the side of center to not allow cavitation (air turbulence) to get into the lower unit water intakes which can cause issues with the big motor ...

    Air turbulence by the xducer housing can be verified by peeking over the transom at plane speed (be careful) ...
