Their have been three "generations" of echomap. Non- chirp, chirp, and now the plus units.
The strikers, I think, are on their second generation.

Ecomap I have the 73 and the 93 and love them. I have had Lowrance Hummingbird and will not go back. you may want to look at the factory outlet store for a price they have them and great pricing.

Look on bassboatcentral.com. click on forums, then scroll down. There are two sub-forums for each of the manufacturers. I think they are sonar and image interpretation.
Picking between brands really is more of a "what fits you thing." Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge. Apple vs Android. You get the idea.
If you haven't already, go to a store that has multiple brands, put your hands on as many of them as you can. One interface might be easier for you than another. Keep in mind, all these will be in simulation mode, thus all will have "cherry picked" images scrolling by .

as you cab see from some of the pics it is amazing and tho i have had the units for 2 yrs I am still learning and playing with them.
