    Default Hooking up finder

Ok so I just bought a Helix 9 SI. I知 going to put it at my console. I also have another unit upfront that I知 going to network. I guess my biggest question is do I need to run separate power cables to my battery for each unit? And what size power cable do I need to use?

Do you have a fuse block at your console that is being fed from the battery not being used for the trolling motor operation?

I personally like to run my electronics on separately fused leads from the fuse box at least.

Not saying that it can not be done other ways but I have never had a "noise" or "interference" issue to track down so far on any of my units over the last 30+ years following this practice.

Yes I believe I do. I'm not as advanced at stuff like that, being the reason I was just going to run a new line from battery to units.

Nutbush, you should have a inline fuse with your new unit, Be sure it is place before you hook up to battery!

I would recommend running nothing smaller than 14 ga wire from both units direct to the battery with a 3 amp fuse at the battery for each unit

Yep, what BeerRun said, the bigger units come with an inline ferrite ring not a fuse, you have to add that separately. And using twisted pair wire is never a bad idea.

Nutbush, if your going to network, I found searching the net, Hodges Marine had the 5 port AS ETH TPXG for 214.95 and free shipping and no tax. The 2- AS EC QDE and extra eithernet cables I got off eBay with no sales tax and free shipping. You will need to fuse eithenet box and add a on/off switch as it draws miniscule power constantly and you can use 16 gage wire with I think a 3 amp fuse. Just a FYI if you haven’t got your stuff yet.

I agree 110%! Using twisted pair wire for electronics can save you a lot of problems from interference.

Definitely a good idea and well worth the effort.
