Default Replacement of console depth finder

I have a 2003 tracker pro crappie and want to replace the junk depth finder it came with. My issue is how to run the new transducer cable. I can see where it runs but can’t see any screws to remove the panel covering where the wires and other cables run from the motor to the console. Has anyone here done this before on a tracker? The cables which are visible are tye wrapped and I don’t know if that carries on to the areas I can’t see. Just wanted to check here before I start yanking on the cable as I don’t want to damage other connection. Of course I’ll cut the tye wraps I can see as they can be easily replaced. Thanks for any help.

Chances are the only ty wraps used are those that you can see. Cut those loose then tie a strong piece of cord to the cable and try to pull it out. Once you get the old cable out you can use the cord to pull the new one in. If that doesn't work borrow a fish tape from an electrician or telephone installer and you might be able to work it through. When you get ready to pull the new cable in pull an extra piece of cord thru with it and just tie each end off so it can't be pulled out. This piece of cord will be priceless a couple years from now when you decide you need another cable or power up there.

Thanks B Bill. After having another look I was able to remove 1 panel and loosen another. Trackers existing unit had the power and transducer cable going to 1 connector so pulling only the transducer cable would require me to cut the power lead and I did want to do that. Not done yet but on my way.

I use to have a Tracker. I hated the way all the wires were bundled together. You couldn't remove anything without removing everything. When I upgraded Fish finders, I didn't remove the old ducer wire, I just cut off both ends of it and ran the new ducer cable. I used a fish tape to pull the ducer wire. A fish tape will surely help you out.

You’re right they give little to no thought to doing any upgrades, replacements or repairs. Seems a boat company could build a great reputation for easy to work on and it would not take that much effort.

When you do your work ..... leave some extra wires in strategic locations to use as pull wires later.

and another point is sometimes running FF wires separate from existing bundles can reduce interference problems
