    Default Question for Garmin Experts

I just recently started using the GPS functions on my Striker units. It's a very useful tool, but there's one aspect of it that really bugs me.

The boat icon rotates according to travel direction. Even if your boat is drifting backwards (stern first), the cursor will flip around (bow points to the direction of travel) and it makes trying to stay on top of a waypoint next to impossible.

Is there any way to lock the boat icon so that it stays referenced to boat position (not direction of travel)?

I have found that there is a lot more precision to dropping a way point and creeping back to it than using marker buoys. Getting to them is not so bad, but trying to stay on them in the wind is frustrating, with the boat icon spinning around trying to stay with the direction of travel.

Look and see if your heading is set to head up

Once you have the marker thrown out and stable find you brush using the down image or 2D and forget about the GPS. That’s the whole purpose of the marker anyway. There should be two or three options under GPS settings or options for heads up always north up and so on. I use Lowrance products but I’m sure Garmin is similar.

Mine does the same thing. I can get with in about 30 ft of a waypoint then the icon will flip around all different directions. I usually flip my big screen to 2D to locate structure throw out a buoy. Then the wind picks up and spend most of my time looking for my buoy again
