Thread: Good onboard chargers.

Is this brand one of the ones that was recommended??

It's been almost exactly a year and it looks like the Promariner quit.

I've got the AC Power light but that's it. No power to either charge lead, and the fuses are fine.

Will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say, but it's not looking good.

Yep.

#1 Rule with batteries . Chargers are not responsible for regular maintenance .

My XPS 5/5/5 charger is acting up after 8 1/2 years, I don't know if that's good or bad or average for the life of a charger. I plug it in after fishing and it acts normal. Runs through all the cycles and charges batteries and the green light come on. Then it after an unspecified time it shuts itself off and starts through all the charging cycles again. Repeat...repeat...
I'm replacing it with a Minn Kota, should be here Wednesday...we'll see how well this one lasts.

When I wired my new boat this summer I installed a Minn Kota precision 460 PC 4 bank charger. I have two trolling motor batteries an electronic battery, and a starting battery wired to it. I have had it around 5 months now and I love it. With 15 amps per bank I have no worries it will be charged and ready to go the next trip even if I am out of state and fishing morning and evening for several days in a row. Also it has a maintenance mode also it recommends to use every so often. I love it so far. Before in my old boat I had the smaller version of this charger that was 2 bank that I used almost 5 seasons with zero issues. As stated above already. I keep my chargers plugged in 24/7 as well. Only time it is unplugged is to go fishing.

Called tech support and they sent a document that went over removing the acid/gel selector screw and grinding some material off of it. I don't really understand it, but it's working fine now. Must be a common issue.

Good deal. Glad you got it figured out and didn’t cost you anything but a phone call. If you don’t mind sharing, what did you have to grind off?

Good job. I will be honest, I probably would have given up and ordered a new one.
